Tahira Khalid was blessed to be born in Detroit Michigan, She has worked to address the disparities and injustices in this society which reduce our fellow citizens abilities to develop the gifts provided to them by their Creator. Tahira has been privileged to work in major social institutions including Wayne State School of Medicine, University of Michigan and Wayne State University, the Institution of Population Health and the National Healthy Start Initiative. She has been able to assist in the development of the International League of Muslim Women, Muslim Family Services, and the Sakinnah Transitional Home for Women-powerful projects with the goal of protecting and providing care for both Muslim and non-Muslim women and families. Tahira is referred to in the African American community as Umi – our mother – which is the highest accolade which she treasures in her life and heart.
