Passing the Torch Preserving the Flame

Join us for our in-person celebration September 30th!

The Wisdom Institute is delighted to announce that we are hosting the Passing the Torch Preserving the Flame Ritual and Celebration to recognize elder African American women who are revered in their community for activism, advocacy and leadership. Torch Bearers will pass their torch to younger women committed to carrying the flame of quantum leaping and endless energy for liberation in the intersectionality of Black life!

About the project:

Passing the Torch Preserving the Flame is a healing and gender justice project initiated in 2020 to actualize a water affordability plan in Detroit and build the foundation for a reimagined Detroit Human Rights Department. Passing the Torch Preserving the Flame project, now in its third year, commissioned Artist Healer Activists who are infusing artmaking, dance, storytelling and ritual to increase African American women’s visibility, the sacredness of our bodies, wholeness, decoloniality, and liberation for a Gender Just Detroit. Passing the Torch Preserving the Flame Ritual and Celebration will be held September 2023.
