Nell Hearns is a native Detroiter and a Lead Organizer with Michigan Liberation where she serves as Bail Program Administrator. She is a devoted advocate and champion of the under-served communities.
Nell oversees the Michigan Black Mama’s Bail Out (MBMBO) and the End Cash Bail Campaigns. The tireless efforts of Nell and her Team have resulted in reuniting many families. With dedication that extends beyond what the job requires, Nell has become a consistent source of support and encouragement to MBMBO clients. A genuine bond and trust has been developed, and oftentimes, Nell is the first to be contacted when clients seek to share their accomplishments or new job opportunities.
Nell is passionate about being an abolitionist and a bail disruptor through the work conducted as the Bail Program Administrator. Working to end cash bail is fundamentally important to Nell, as it criminalizes the poor and POC.
Outside of Michigan Liberation, Nell is a wife and Mother of three children and 5 grandchildren. She is a Breast cancer survivor and advocate in promoting breast cancer awareness. She enjoys spending time with family and recently SURVIVED a 16 member Florida family vacation without her spouse who was recovering from COVID.
