LaTanya Bell is a mother, healing justice and Black women rights advocate, entrepreneur, mentor, listening partner, youth motivational speaker and Co-Executive Director at the Wisdom Institute in Detroit, where she helps lead the organization’s healing justice grassroots advocacy efforts and issue-based campaigns. Her work focuses on uplifting the determination of Black women and girls. Her work consists of art infused advocacy that centers Black maternal health, reproductive justice, water affordability and its effect on Black women, Black women in business networking, voter engagements, Detroit right to counsel, and more. She plays a key role in current grassroots community movements that help to build power through transformational solidarity and creating change.
LaTanya also works as a part time entrepreneur as a community designer/artist and stylist, business consultant/ PR agent, notary signing agent, substitute virtual educator, and office administrator for National Heritage Academies. She is the founder of Smart Girls Empowered, a non-profit organization that focuses on empowering Black women and girls to live their dreams and has been involved in many business empowerment panels and committees including strategic planning, communications, water rights, women rights, and voter rights. She has served as a guest speaker on various topics and platforms, which includes the 2024 Mama’s March in Lansing Michigan. LaTanya, former communications director, has been interviewed by local media, publisher and editor of WI’s quarterly newsletters and has presented verbal and written public comments at the city of Detroit and EPA public comment meetings in 2023 & 2024.
One of the newest 2024 Mamavist fellows, LaTanya is dedicated to learning and educating other Black women and girls of the power they possess using their voices,mobilizing and building collective power. LaTanya is a graduate of Davenport University, holding Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business Management & Administration and an Associate’s degree in Marketing.
